starting Saturday, May 12 with the Indian Crossing Century,

Natalie Kekeisen was a long time HI-USA member and trip
leader who led weekly rides and planned CATSUP (Cycle Around
the State Universities and Parks). Natalie died much too soon
at 54. Natalie organized several century rides as she
encouraged riders to reach new goals. CATSUP became CAMP, and
then CAM. In 2007 CAM will be the “Bushwhacker Ride” as we
explore some of Jesse James’ haunts.

Cycle Across Missouri (CAM):
"The Bushwhacker Ride"
Sunday to Friday, June 10-15
EVENT COORDINATORS: Dave Reiter (314-406-2359 or davereiter@sbcglobal.net)
and Billie Teneau (314-291-7860 or teneau2@sbcglobal.net)
COST: By Feb. 1--$350; Mar. 1--$395; May 1--$425;
June 1--$450.
Riders start in Kansas City and pedal through the past to
explore haunts of Jesse James. Was he an American Robin Hood
whose activities symbolized resistance to the Industrial Age?
Or was he just a bandit sought by the Pinkerton Detective
Agency? “Jesse James (partly) turned to crime as a means of
exacting revenge on all things Yankee,” says Time-Life Books’
The Wild West. But Jesse (son of a minister) also had a
human side and was always willing to “help some cowpoke who
was down on his luck.” (Encyclopaedia Britannica’s
Annals of America series) Jesse James has become folklore
and a legend hailed in song, stories, and movies. James’
home is now a museum along side the Pony Express Museum in St.
Joseph. The CAM route next moves to Maryville and the
Northwest Missouri State University. Then on to Bethany where
the development of the railroads was important. Riders will
lunch in Jamesport, the largest Amish Community in Missouri.
In Kearney, riders visit the Jesse James farm and burial site
before returning to UMKC.
CAM: “The Bushwhacker Ride” is a loop of 340 miles,
daily average is 57. Enjoy rolling hills, flat areas, and low
traffic as you explore northwestern Missouri. Riders arriving
Saturday, June 9, can stay the night at UMKC for $22 each. (No
camping on UMKC campus.) Secure weeklong parking available for
$16. The cost of the ride covers breakfast, dinner, rest
stops, marked roads, and mechanical/SAG support. All
over-nights have showers. Camp in your own tent on school
grounds or sleep in gyms. Luggage shuttle provided. Riders may
stay in motels at their own expense. (Call for a motel list
where a shuttle will be provided.) Additional information at
314-644-4660. Online registration available at www.moonlightramble.com.

The Firecracker 100 is the third event of the 5-Star
Century Series. Although not a race, there is a timing option
for “bragging rights.” (Timing, however, is required of
riders wanting a 100-mile patch or working toward the 5-Star
Century Vest.) The Ride starts and ends at Patriot's Park near
Greenville, Illinois and consists of two 50-mile loops. The
ride is neither hilly nor flat, just enough challenge on
smooth roads to keep you interested. Arrows are at every
intersection and maps/cue sheets will be available. SAG
service provided by MAPLEWOOD BICYCLE from 7 AM to 5 PM. The
first rest stop will have enough energy-filled snacks to get
you to your delicious, nutritious lunch. After lunch, complete
the second half of your century with another rest stop, then
back to Patriot's Park for your 5-Star Century Series patch.
The ride takes place rain or shine, so join us for a fun day

or training for a longer ride. Helmets Required. Patriot's Park
is beautiful, so bring the entire family to relax and enjoy
